Antique Sick Call Outfit Crucifix Holy Water Candle Holder
Antique Sick Call Outfit Crucifix Holy Water Candle Holder

This is an Antique silver metal crucifix candle holder/holy water font that is very ornate.  This came out of a Sick Call Outfit from 1896.  How do I know this?  Because I have collected these in the past and it is stamped 'Sick Call Outfit patented November 17,1896, Quadruple plated Silver' on the bottom of it.  Says 'I.N.R.I.' at the top of the crucifix.  The crucifix is removable from the candle portion because it was meant to be stored away in a wood box when not in use.  The candle holders accept a taper sized candle.
In the late 1800's into the early 1900's, these Sick Call kits were used by priests.  Residents kept these in their home for the priest to use.  If a person was sick in the home, the priest visited the home to bless the sick person by saying a prayer, lighting the candles and annointing them with holy water.  The holy water went in the little holy water "font" or bowl you see in the center.
This measures 13 inches tall and 9 inches wide.  Some marks here and there, but in Excellent condition for being 116 years old!!
Such a great collectible!  It has a history to it and is still a useful and decorative item.  Quite a conversation piece!
